Taste of Desires: A Handmade Font for Authentic Brands

I had just wrapped up mood board research for a new client—a small-batch skincare line called Verdant. The client wanted something natural, honest, but undeniably elegant. No harsh edges, nothing that felt too digital. They wanted their brand to feel as though it were genuinely handcrafted. So, when I unzipped the Taste of Desires script- a new fresh handmade calligraphy font, I knew I was either about to find our perfect match or start the search all over again. I installed it, opened a fresh canvas in Illustrator, and typed the brand name. The moment the letterforms appeared, I had a strong feeling this project just found its voice.

The First Impression of a Handcrafted Typeface

The first thing I noticed was the natural rhythm. Taste of Desires is not one of those rigid, overly perfect scripts that looks flawless but reads as completely lifeless. It has real organic movement. The upstrokes are delicate and airy, while the downstrokes carry just enough weight to feel grounded and intentional. It belongs to the Script Amp category, but it leans closer to a refined handmade calligraphy font than a standard brush script. There is a softness to it that immediately made me think of botanical ingredients and amber glass jars. It felt like a premium font without trying too hard to impress.

For a branding project, the personality of a typeface sets the entire emotional tone. Verdant needed to feel botanical, gentle, and trustworthy. Taste of Desires delivered exactly that. It has a romantic quality without becoming overly ornate or difficult to read. That balance is surprisingly rare in modern typography. Many script fonts lean too far into decorative territory and sacrifice function. This one holds the line beautifully.

Logo Design: Where the Font Earns Its Place

For the Verdant logo, I needed a wordmark that could stand alone. It had to work perfectly on a tiny product label and also read clearly as an Instagram avatar. Taste of Desires includes beautiful alternate characters and swashes that give you room to customize. I spent some time experimenting with the "V" and the "t," eventually creating a subtle swoop underneath that added a gentle anchor to the mark.

The result was delicate but highly readable. In logo design, a script font must balance personality with instant legibility. If people have to squint or guess, the logo fails. This font nails that balance. It draws the eye in without confusing it. I sent the first black-and-white mockup to the client, and the immediate reaction was exactly what I hoped for—it felt like them. That is the magic of a well-chosen typeface. It translates a business name into a visual identity that resonates.

Packaging and Product Labels: The Real Test

This is where the handmade flexibility of Taste of Desires really matters. Scaling a script font down for a two-inch product label is a genuine test of its design. Small-batch skincare labels rely on that personal, artisanal touch. The font stayed crisp and inviting, even when we used it for product names like "Serum," "Cleanser," and "Oil." The standard ligatures ensured that duplicate letters didn't look like a copy-paste error, which is a common issue with lesser script fonts.

For the ingredient lists and supporting details, we paired it with a clean sans serif font. This created a clear visual hierarchy. The elegant script commanded the primary message, while the neutral sans serif handled the practical information. In packaging design, you are selling a lifestyle and a feeling, not just a product. This font communicates "thoughtful" and "artisanal" consistently. It fit perfectly into the editorial design of the brand booklet we developed alongside the packaging.

Digital Presence and Website Integration

The Verdant website needed to reflect the same warmth and tactile quality as the physical products. We used Taste of Desires for the main hero headings. "Nourish your skin." "Botanical care for modern life." The font looked stunning on screen, retaining its handmade charm even at larger pixel sizes. However, I always stress to clients that handmade fonts should be treated as display fonts. They are the stars of the show. They are not designed for long paragraphs of body copy.

For the body text on the site, we paired it with a neutral serif font. This is classic font pairing—letting a script headline grab attention while a reliable serif does the heavy lifting for readability. The contrast is beautiful and functional. It added a layer of professionalism to the design assets and helped with audience engagement because the visual hierarchy was instinctive. People knew exactly where to look first.

Practical Workflow and Commercial Licensing

Before I commit any typeface to a client project, I always check the full glyph set. Taste of Desires delivers on that front. It includes a solid collection of alternates and ligatures, which are essential for avoiding the "same letter" trap in longer wordmarks. For a creative font like this, having proper commercial font licensing is non-negotiable for client work. It protects the designer and the business. Entrepreneurs and small business owners should always confirm this before commissioning a design.

My personal workflow for testing always involves printing. I laser-printed the Verdant logo on different paper stocks—matte, textured, and glossy. The ink retention was solid, and the delicate details held up well. This is a practical step I recommend to every designer. A font can look perfect on a backlit screen but behave differently in physical production. Testing in real-world conditions saves time and ensures the final product matches the vision.

Social Media and Marketing Materials

Consistency is the backbone of brand recognition. We used Taste of Desires across Instagram stories, quote cards, and product launch graphics. It became the consistent voice for the brand. Whether it was a promotional flyer or a blog header, the font provided a cohesive thread that tied everything together. In web design and social media graphics, the visual hierarchy becomes instinctive. The script font commands the primary message, while the supporting text provides context. It helps build a recognizable brand aesthetic that audiences trust.

Who Should Use This Typeface

Would I recommend this typeface for every project? No. Handmade calligraphy fonts have a specific job. They excel in specific contexts:

They are not ideal for long-form text, dense data, or corporate presentations. But for a brand like Verdant, it was the perfect choice. It transformed a simple business name into a visual experience. That is the power of a well-chosen typeface. It turns a product into a brand and a brand into a story.

For designers working on their next branding project, testing a font in real context—on a mockup, on a website, on a label—is the only way to know if it truly works. Taste of Desires passed every test I gave it. It brought warmth, elegance, and authenticity to the project. That is exactly what good typography should do.
